Dear Supporters of Good Government,
Regardless if you voted for me, or not, THANK YOU! 2007 was the first time in 8 years we had a choice in candidates for Northampton County Council, District 1. Working together we have sent a message to all incumbents, we will hold you accountable for your actions, and performance. AND WE DID!
Some highlights this election:
- Early in my campaigning, I made clear that I would work hard to reestablish rehabilitation programs in our county's prison, focusing on partnering with local volunteer organizations. Just prior to election day, County Council moved toward restoring a volunteer coordinator post that remained vacant for several years. My Opponent said she would recommend the reinstatement of the job. - A victory for us all, even before election day!
- In 2003, my Opponent received 100% of the total votes, and 4 years later, it appears her support waned to 67% of the total votes. This will hopefully send a message to her work harder for us!
- Most importantly, we validated the basis of democracy, free choice. By having options, win or loose, each candidate's efforts are reward voters with the knowledge the winner was elected, not simply selected. We must continue with this, and hopefully other good citizens will rise up, and participate in our democratic system.
- Under the cloud of other District's negative and slanderous campaigning, my opponent and I both kept our campaigns, positive and concentrated on our strengths.
Just a note about the election day. After a few hours sharing the entrance way to the same polling place with my Opponent, it was refreshing that we both thanked each other for our positive campaigns. With politicians working hard for the same position, and remaining civil, we can become the role models of how we of all different options, can live and work together. Amen.
Sincerely,
Tom Dietrich |
